The province’s “Internet + Public Tree-Planting Campaign 2025”, in sync with the launch of the West Lake Administration’s “Embrace a Tree” program officially kicked off at Gushan (Solitary Hill) by the West Lake on March 8.
As this March 12 will be the 47th Tree Planting Day, the kick-off will also be a call for public participation of the tree planting campaign without a pay. The site saw the presence of officials from the local departments, representatives of tree-adopting enterprises, citizens, and volunteers. They dug holes with spades, held saplings upright, filled the holes with soil, watered them, and finally completed the procedure of planting trees like plum blossom and Acer palmatum. They also adopted some trees and learned skills to take care of them. Additional on-site activities, such as free plant diagnosis by “Plant Doctors”, the “Books for Flowers” campaign, and the public lectures on special plants on the West Lake and the duty of tree-planting.
You may also take a part through the mini-app “Zheli Planting.” It will be a digitalized approach to smartly building a greener, more eco-friendly community. At the kickoff event, The “Internet + Public Tree-Planting Campaign 2025” Initiative was unveiled at the kick-off, calling everyone to fulfill the tree-planting duty. The goal? To become a champion, pioneer, and advocate of the “Beautiful Zhejiang” program, and to breathe new life into our province’s green landscape.
Meanwhile, the West Lake Administration’s “Embrace a Tree” initiative allows the public to adopt 37 aged trees and over 700 distinctive West Lake trees. The trees available include Chinese sweetgums, camphor, catalpas, and Mongolian oaks alive in Yunqi Zhujing, Feilai Peak, Wushan, and General Yue’s Memorial. Some willows at Liulang Wenying, sweet osmanthus at Manjuelong Village, cherry blossoms at Taiziwan Park, apricot blossoms at Baita Park, and plum blossoms at Hangzhou Botanical Garden and Gushan Park, will also be the targets for adoption. In short, it is a campaign for the public care of trees around West Lake and for a sense of romance from planting trees.
