The former hermitage of Huang Gongwang, a scenic area in Fuyang District, has been open to visitors free of charge since May 31. The ticket for entry into both the scenic area and the Digital Poetry Road Center is eliminated, making the hermitage the district’s second national AAAA-level tourist attraction that offers free admission, following the Longmen Ancient Town.

The hermitage actually comprises the his Memorial Hall, Xiaodongtian, the Forest Park, and the Folklore Town - a getaway to stay relaxed with beautiful scenes or to explore the nature together with tutors. This is the second “Cross-Straits Exchange Center” in Zhejiang Province (the first in Hangzhou). After nearly a year of reconstruction, Huang Gongwang Memorial Center was inaugurated on the eve of this year’s Dragon Boat Festival and opened on the festival day itself.

Covering an area of 957 square meters, including an exhibition hall spanning 730 square meters, the Memorial Center offers a journey into Huang Gongwang’s life, his legendary painting “Dwelling in Fuchun Mountains (Fu-chun-shan Ju-tu),” and other legacies. Its unconventional floor designs, from the foyer to the middle hall, are orchestrated with an aura of sudden openness. The ceiling features matrix-style light columns, arranged in gradients, suspending above to harmonize with the pillars.

The projection of Huang’s great painting in the Middle Hall, which extends 45 meters wide and 3 meters high, is like the unrolling of a scroll of nature. The masterwork, with sparkling, multi-dimensional and multi-layered multimedia effects, provides an awe-inspiring experience for all visitors.

The space around the Memorial Center is now furnished with a lawn by the entrance, a floral bed on the square, and a statue of Huang Gongwang (with his poetry embedded into the paving), creating an elegant and culture-specific ambiance. The terrace by the “White Crane Pond” in front of the Memorial Center, with classic wooden railings, also commands a thrilling, panoramic view of the Memorial Center.
