Hangzhou kicked off a week-long celebration of Children’s Day with the launch of Red Scarf Week at the Sun Square in Hangzhou Zoo (Children’s Park).
The opening ceremony began with a live show of the marching band from Changqiao Primary School. Attendees, adorned with the iconic red scarves of the Young Pioneers, witnessed the initiation of new Young Pioneers. Following this, students from Xizi Lake Primary School captivated the audience with a song and dance performance that celebrated the city’s rich tea culture. Ten outstanding Young Pioneers were then honored for their exemplary character and academic achievements. At the climax of the ceremony, representatives of the Young Pioneers from both schools presented the Proposal of the Red Scarf Camp, an initiative designed to encourage young people to o step outside the classroom and experience the beauty of nature and the diversity of society.
Hangzhou Red Scarf Park, the first theme park named after the symbol of the Young Pioneers of China, is committed to combining patriotic education with hands-on natural science learning. The park has already welcomed over 10,000 Young Pioneers in the past six months. It has launched numerous special programs, including the Red Scarf Docents and education programs on the history of the Chinese communist revolution.
Red Scarf Week is packed with activities for children of all ages. A highlight is the “West Lake @ Future” Science and Cultural Fair, co-organized by more than ten local organizations. Adding to the excitement, special events will be held to celebrate World Otter Day and raise awareness and support for the conservation of otters. In celebration of both the Dragon Boat Festival and Children’s Day, fairy tale-themed garden parties and mugwort sachet-making workshops will offer hands-on fun for families. To foster a love of science, organizers will also donate science books to local schools and libraries. Furthermore, Hangzhou Red Scarf Park is amplifying the impact of Red Scarf Week through a collaborative torch relay involving 15 children’s parks and 15 schools in 15 cities. Fifteen outstanding Young Volunteer representatives will take part in the relay, building excitement for the upcoming 15th National Games of China.
Hangzhou Red Scarf Park, Hangzhou Zoo, and the Children’s Park offer a nurturing and stimulating environment where young minds can grow and explore. The organizers hope that every child will come away from Red Scarf Week with joyful memories to last a lifetime.
