Little Red Bike (shared bikes) is a preferred city mobility option for our residents and travelers. The facility, since launched on May 1, 2008, has registered a total of 1.4 billion users.
Over 500 new bikes will join the family. They arrived at the city quietly at night, and will be tested, fine-tuned, and registered before service.
The 16 years-old fleet saw updates in recent years, where new bikes were in and old ones were out, to improve its overall performance and look. In 2024, more than 10,000 new bikes were delivered to the city downtown, including 1,616 kid-friendly family models. The city core also boasts over 3,900 bike service points, where 96,000 bikes are parked.
The city’s Public Bicycle Company said that more bikes will be available this year to cater for the peak season in spring. To echo the call for a “children-friendly” city, at least1,000 or more such family bikes will also be offered to meet the growing demand for outings.
The pilot “e-fencing” program began in 2022. The city downtown now has, over the past two years, had over 1,000 electronic fences locking 20,000 bikes. The program allows a user to pick or return the bike either at physical docks or inside an “electronic fence.” The latter obviously saves time.
This year will see availability of more “electronic fences”, with old ones to be updated and rebuilt for a larger capacity. In sync with the move, bikes with e-lock will continue to be delivered. It will be user-friendly and make bike sharing even more convenien
