Some public buses adorned with “snake” designs, a ceremony exclusive to the vibes of Hangzhou, made its debut on Dec. 30 as year 2025 is approaching. It is a surprise and blessing for the city’s public following the “rabbit” and “dragon (loong)” designs dedicated to the past years.
The bus with two decks is a new year’s gift jointly hatched by Hangzhou Public Transport Group and Hangzhou Bus Media Inc. to celebrate the “snake year.” The bus in general resembles a winding snake with its body consisting of a string of gold coins, showing Chinese zodiac elements and a symbol of abundant wealth as being against the red backdrop. The Chinese knot at the rear allows people to take photos. Additionally, the speaker on the bus will greet each passenger with a congratulatory message that “Hangzhou Public Transport Group wishes you a prosperous New Year.”
The buses are generally called No. 520 on weekdays running from West Wulin Square to Qianjiang CBD. However, they will be used for sightseeing on weekends and holidays, along a route covering scenic spots from West Wulin Square to Hangzhou Zoo. You might see them anytime on the streets and alleys in the future months and witness how our traditional culture and folk customs are delivered on road.
