Children of the city’s public sanitation workers are flocking from provinces such as Anhui, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Henan, and elsewhere to Hangzhou for a family reunion with their parents during the summertime. To address the challenge those sanitation workers face in attending to their kids, and to ensure their children to spend a safe and fulfilling holiday, the city’s administrative law enforcement bureau and the West Lake’s administration committee jointly sponsored a summer camp for them.

The opening of the camp was staged at the Solitary Hill on July 16, with the presence of 25 sanitation workers from every corner of the city and their children. “No worry for leaving my kid unattended! It has lots of fun and even knowledge!” Li Chengying, a sanitation worker from Jiangsu shared her view.

The opening also saw a charity event, where the city’s urban environment sanitation association, the Charity of the West Lake Scenic Area, and other enterprises like the city’s Environment Group, presented the kids with stationery and snacks. 100 parcels of beverages were also donated to the sanitation workers.

The camp started with a journey from Pinghu Qiuyue, an attraction on the West Lake, and followed by the Lu Xun’s statue, the Lin’s Society, the Xiling Seal Engravers’ Society, and the Ancient Books Archive of Zhejiang Library. They also tried making the heritage bamboo fans. Full of thrills and legacies, this is an orchestrated route for the children to find the bests of the city where their parents are making a living.

“Mon works as a cleaner of the West Lake, and she often tells me that the lake is beautiful. I took a ride around it today, and so I also fell in love with the lake and the city! Li Chengying’s daughter said that she felt happy to visit the West Lake with her mother.

The camp will be a week long. In addition to scenic spots, it also provides chances to access the city’s finest tea and museums. It would be a good move allowing them to understand the city and their parents’ work environment. More themed activities, such as handling waste, effective use of the garden waste, and hand-drawing bags to call for waste classification, etc. will be offered to help them grow the awareness of saving our enlivenment and planet.
