Hangzhou Association for the Promotion of Green Lifestyle was founded in Hangzhou on September 12. At the first meeting of the association’s council, Articles of Association and regulations for financial management were discussed and passed, and a theme volunteer campaign was initiated.
The Association was founded by 36 individual and 28 organization members, including the Environment School of Zhejiang University of Technology, Alibaba Foundation and Hangzhou Ecological and Cultural Association. The Association has members from the city’s ecological and environmental authorities, non-governmental organizations and role models and leading figures in volunteer services for promoting a green lifestyle. The founding of the Association symbolizes that volunteer services for a green lifestyle in Hangzhou entered a new stage of standardized, professional and law-based development.
The theme volunteer campaign was held along the riverside greenway on the Wentao Road. With a total length of 3.5 km, the campaign attracted 120 young students and participants from the Association and Hangzhou Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau. Elements of environmental protection and green Asian Games were placed along the route. Participants can learn about Hangzhou’s efforts in green development in the theme campaign.
Pan Xiangzhong, director of the Center for Environmental Education and Communication of Hangzhou Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau and the President of the Association, said the latter will serve to connect the government to NGOs, social organizations and volunteers. Campaigns on promoting green Asian Games, low-carbon lifestyle and preservation of biodiversity will be launched and involve more people in environmental protection, Pan said.
“This is a platform for volunteers. In the past, volunteer activities were spontaneous. With the platform, businesses, schools and communities can work in synergy to promote volunteer services, and we volunteers are more assured and confident,” said Sun Yi, deputy head of the Hangzhou Green Volunteer Services Organization.
