The “Colorful Asia: Asian Costumes Exhibition” is the first special exhibition setting focus on costumes of Asian countries. On display are 140 pieces of costumes from 27 countries in East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia. Inheritors of dyeing, weaving and embroidering techniques inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity are invited to the exhibition to demonstrate the craftsmanship.
The “Sporting Fashion: the 20th Century Western Sportswear” features 48 pieces/sets of sportswear for cycling, swimming, skiing, golf and tennis.
The “Fun of Playing: Children Sports in Chinese Song Paintings” looks at children’s sports from paintings of China’s Song Dynasty (960-1279). Sports children played in the ancient dynasty included ball-kicking, arrow throwing, archery, chess playing and Chinese date game.
Textiles displayed in the “Sports in Textiles in the Latter Half of 20th Century” exhibition contain a wide range of sports elements, including those about traditional sports of horse lasso, wushu and dragon dancing, and those about modern sports of football, volleyball and basketball. The exhibits feature either single sport or integration of sport with flowers or buildings, showcasing people being high-spirited, vigorous, athletic and up-and-coming.
Along with these theme exhibitions, China National Silk Museum offers visitors with a series of immersive experiences, including lectures, docent services, children’s games, and embroidery play.
