The West Lake Scenic Area Administrative Committee started a project repairing and upgrading lights across the scenic area this May. After three months, the project was completed, and a refreshed night-time West Lake has been presented to visitors.

With the project, lights placed around the West Lake, across Baoshi Hill and along the Beishan Street, as well as along the Nanshan Road and Yanggong Causeway inside the scenic area, two key areas for the Asian Games, were repaired and renovated to become safer or more beautiful. With the lighting and the environment, a beautiful Chinese painting was given birth in night time, exhibiting the cultural charm of Hangzhou.

Different ways of renovation were adopted for different regions. For example, the illumination model for the Baoshi Hill was adjusted. After lamps were removed from trees, modular high-post lamps were erected across the hill, which became more environmentally friendly. LED beams were used throughout the Baochu Tower, highlighting the elegant simplicity and historical profundity of the tower in a more subtle manner. Worn and broken lamps and cables on the Chenghuang Pavilion were repaired, re-illuminating the beautiful structure. In addition, energy-saving LED lamps replaced old high energy-consuming metal halide lamps. While retaining the illuminating effect, the replacement substantially lowered overall energy consumption.

From September 8 to October 28, lights around the West Lake will be turned on every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and on holidays. The Chenghuang Pavilion, Leifeng Pagoda and Baochu Tower, as landmark structures, will be lightened up every night.
