What if a single brick could unlock a thousand years of history? On March 7, the cultural lounge titled “Traces of Wuyue Heritage” was declared open at Qinyuan Pavilion, launching the site’s 2026 thematic event series. The debut program puts the spotlight on the pagoda’s unique scripture bricks, blending artifact interpretation, historical reenactment, and hands-on brick-making to offer visitors a tactile journey into the world of the Wuyue Kingdom.

The newly opened lounge is steeped in understated elegance. Visitors are walked by some experts through the history of Leifeng Pagoda, using the scripture bricks as a lens into the past. Throughout the event, actors dressed as ancient artisans bring folk tales to life, sharing local legends about how the bricks were once believed to “heal the sick and bless the silkworms”—offering a glimpse into the spiritual life of the era.

But the real crowd-pleaser? Getting to make a brick yourself. Guided by instructors, visitors can press clay, carve inscriptions, and even write their own blessing scrolls, using replica bricks modeled to scale after the originals. It’s an immersive way to turn abstract heritage into something you can actually feel.

The scripture brick experience runs through March 29, opening on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. It marks the first in a year-long series of monthly events under the “Wuyue Heritage” banner. Each month will spotlight a different relic unearthed from the site, gradually piecing together the story of the Wuyue Kingdom. Through this, we aim to further public engagement with the pagoda’s history and solidify its role as a vibrant window into the cultural soul of Jiang’nan (South of the Yangtze River).
