Not long ago, the “Yangtze River Delta Life Party: Hiking & Reading in Nature” — a joint effort by travel platform Fliggy, Yuhang’s cultural tourism authority, and the Children’s Branch of Hangzhou Public Library — officially kicked off. The initiative launched a new series of parent-child study tours under the banner “Starting from Library.” Using an innovative model that blends reading, study tours, and cultural travel, it takes families into rural areas like Yuhang’s Jingshan, Baizhang, Huanghu, and Luniao, turning the great outdoors into a natural classroom for kids and redefining what weekend micro-getaways and parent-child reading experiences can look like.
On May 30, the first event set off joyfully from the Children’s Branch of Hangzhou Public Library. On-site activities included a library exploration class, a science carnival, and a robot dog performance — all fresh and fun. More than 20 families then hopped on a chartered bus to Baizhang Xikou Village, where they immersed themselves in hands-on learning at the Lunar Calendar Museum, Tsai Chih-chung Museum, Bamboo Museum, and Shuttle Museum. They took part in activities like painting seasonal solar-term fans, making sundials, and trying their hand at intangible cultural heritage crafts. At the same time, a “Reading Bus” mobile library kicked off a month-long tour of local villages, bringing a huge selection of children’s books to kids in rural areas — bridging the “last mile” of public culture services.
Throughout June, the events will span five weekends, each with its own theme: the first weekend takes families to Xiaogucheng Village in Jingshan for tea-picking, tea appreciation, and a taste of Zen-and-tea culture. The second weekend heads to the Shuttle Museum in Baizhang, where kids learn weaving techniques and the spirit of craftsmanship. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the action moves to Qingshan Village for a dragon boat folk parade and a sampling of the traditional “five yellows” feast. And at the end of June, the destination is Qianzhuang Village in Luniao, for a behind-the-scenes look at the intangible cultural heritage pear syrup workshop, where kids make pear syrup candy with their own hands. The idea: let children read by wandering, and grow through experience.
As the country’s first combined weekend micro-getaway cultural tourism IP, the “Yangtze River Delta Life Party” was created by Fliggy and Yuhang cultural tourism. It focuses on fresh experiences and trend-forward living, offering families and young art lovers a one-stop option for short distance travel. This is Fliggy’s latest real-world move into blending culture and tourism, and into the parent-child study tour space. Leveraging Fliggy’s strengths in product planning, online operations, and traffic, and teaming up with the Children’s Branch of Hangzhou Public Library and Yuhang’s rural cultural tourism resources, the project upgrades traditional reading into a complete ecosystem that includes guided reading, study tours, hands-on experiences, and sharing. It extends library services beyond the building and into the fields, lets knowledge grow from books into nature, and creates a win-win between public cultural services and new forms of rural cultural consumption.
