When the textures of Qing Dynasty fish-scale stone embankments meet the flowing light and shadow on digital screens, Hangzhou’s innovative stories in culture and museums come vividly to life. Recently, the “Museum City” New Media Excellence Exhibition kicked off at the city’s Seawall Museum, adding a new must-see spot for visitors in this city boasting 299 museums.
In 2025, Hangzhou Gardens and Cultural Relics Bureau launched a series of promotional activities centered around the theme of the “Museum City.” The New Media Communication Excellence Promotion event was one of these initiatives. This exhibition showcases a collection of high-quality short videos, integrated media events, and communication platforms gathered during the campaign. Divided into sections like “Small WeChat, Big Vision,” “Walking Political Thought Classes,” “Small Ideas, Great Heritage,” and “Small Joys, Big Culture,” it uses new media as a bridge to fully display the rich cultural landscape of Hangzhou. Alongside this, there are displays of creative products and interactive experiences designed to engage young people in exploring history, weaving together the highlights of the city’s cultural heritage and showcasing its innovative path to bringing artifacts to life.
The exhibition also features special interactive experiences. In the standing wall area, large touchscreens linked to the “Footsteps of Hangzhou” official account allow visitors to unlock information about Hangzhou’s cultural relics with just one click. The stamping area is packed with surprises, offering a collection of commemorative stamps from the “Explore Every Museum in Hangzhou” initiative in 2025, making it easy for visitors to collect unique mementos of Hangzhou’s cultural heritage. The exhibition is now officially open to the public.
