Spring is back. On April 14, the seventh edition of the “Blossoms in Full Color” kicked off at Linping Park. From April to June, Linping Mountain will roll out four zones and over a dozen special activities, offering visitors a free spring feast that blends nature, culture, education, and leisure — all without spending a dime.
As the city’s green heart, Linping Mountain’s 90,000-square-meter sea of blooms is the first to say “come on over.” During the event, peonies, tree peonies, azaleas, and hydrangeas will bloom in succession. A 10,000-square-meter peony garden features 35 varieties of both herbaceous and tree peonies, bringing back the luxurious vibe of the Tang dynasty. Over in the 50,000-square-meter azalea garden, more than 300 varieties — cleverly mixed between early and late bloomers — will keep the color going through early May. And the 30,000-square-meter hydrangea garden, with over 90 varieties, delivers that dreamy “Endless Summer” feel, making the blooms last a full three months.
But it’s not just about admiring flowers. This year’s event doubles down on the “park plus” concept, with a creative lineup of interactive experiences.
Throughout the season, a flower-themed market, charity sales, and plein-air painting exhibitions will spread good vibes through the city. On the opening day, the market served up traditional Chinese flair — think sweet osmanthus desserts, flower-shaped tea cakes, Song-style brocade crafts, ceremonial tea whisking, and intangible heritage flower string art. These ancient crafts are being brought into everyday life, turning into “a piece of Linping spring” that visitors can take home.
On the community service, “plant doctor” consultations, poetry-versus-flower giveaways, and guided botanical tours turn the flower fields into a living classroom. This weekend (April 18-19), experts will be on hand at Linping Mountain. If your houseplants are acting up, just bring the plant or a photo to the Shuangyong Pavilion plaza for a diagnosis.
Linping Mountain will also open three limited-time library pop-ups—the Cherry Blossom Valley, the Rainbow Pavilion, and the Yiyun Pavilion, where you can collect stamps at these “mobile reading rooms” to redeem a limited-edition potted plant. Meanwhile, night tours along the southern mountain greenway are up and running, with several new Instagram-worthy photo spots. You may take a stroll at nightfall, snap night blossom shots, or pose at stops like “Blooming All the Way” and “Floral Silhouette.” When night falls and the lights come on around Donglai Pavilion, flowers and colorful lighting weave together in a dazzling display. So here’s the invitation: come to Linping Mountain, and soak in the view.
