Not long after securing the approval from the national authority, the Quzhou section of Hangzhou-Chun’an-Kaihua (Hang-Chun-Kai) Expressway was green lighted for full-scale construction. The major artery, set to boost livelihoods and link Zhejiang with Jiangxi, is now shifting from blueprint to reality.

Things are moving fast. The site is packed with machines, temporary access roads, and 11 large temporary support facilities—like concrete batching plants. Across the 46 active work zones, crews are pushing ahead. Three very long tunnels (Chunkai, Caomen, Changsu) and eight long tunnels, plus six major bridges including Zhongcunxi and Yaojiacun, are now under full-blown construction. Over 40 teams, more than 200 machines, and upwards of 1,100 workers are firing on all cylinders.

The expressway is a key part of the G25 Expressway and one of Zhejiang’s flagship transport projects. The Quzhou stretch runs about 61 kilometers, built to dual-carriageway two-lane-each-way standards, with a design speed of 100 km/h. It drew an estimated total investment of 13.65 billion yuan, and is expected to get completed in 2029.

This project matters for a bunch of national strategies—think Yangtze River Delta integration and building a transport powerhouse. It’s designed to help central and western China plug into the Delta’s growth, while filling gaps in the national highway system. Once completed, Kaihua County will finally achieve the goal of putting a highway within reach of every township, and more than 30 villages along the route will be just 10 minutes from an on-ramp. Stretching across Zhejiang and Jiangxi, this lifeline won’t just be a golden tourist route linking scenic spots and industries—it’ll also turn transit into a catalyst for turning green mountains and clean streams into real economic gains, giving a boost to Zhejiang’s high-quality drive to build a national model for common prosperity.
