The 11th Yue Fei Culture Heritage Ceremony, marking the 923rd anniversary of the national hero’s birth, was held on April 2 at Yue Fei’s Temple. It brought together descendants of the Yue family and fans of Yue Fei’s legacy to honor the highly revered Song Dynasty general.
The memorial hall saw a solemn but truly striking performance deriving from the general’s story. Acts like “Drum Ode” and a recitation of “The River All Red”—a famed poem his wrote—brought his unwavering patriotism and unyielding spirit to life for every visitor. Messages were given by guests and representatives of Yue’s descendants, reflecting on the cultural significance and the value of preserving Yue Fei’s legacy, and reinforcing a shared commitment to honoring traditional Chinese values and patriotic spirit.
As the ceremony fell around the Qingming time, participants took part in a respectful yet simple ritual, the “Sacrifice in Yue’s Memory.” The rite conveyed deep remembrance and admiration, along with a firm resolve to keep Yue Fei’s spirit and the Chinese cultural memory alive.
The ceremony not only offers a chance to remember a national hero and celebrate the traditional culture—it also helps promote the timeless ideal of serving one’s country with total loyalty. It’s also an initiative for pushing the our culture forward in a new era.
The temple will also host a Song Dynasty-themed fair, cultural workshops on Yue Fei’s legacy, hands-on sessions for making intangible cultural heritage lacquer fans, and bamboo-woven wind chime crafting. Come join in and welcome.
