In the rice paddies of Putian Village, Qintang Township, Jiande, where the late rice harvest has just wrapped up, machine operators are putting on a kind of juggling act with rakes, grass grabbers, and balers. The nimble equipment works in concert—sweeping scattered straw into windrows, weaving it into mats, and compressing it into “Swiss rolls” that are hauled off the fields and processed into feed, fertilizer, and fuel. Qintang Township has set up Jiande’s first straw recycling company, offering free straw collection to all 16 townships and subdistricts across the city. It expects to collect about 15,000 tons of straw a year from more than 50,000 mu (approx. 33.3 square kilometers) of rice fields, turning agricultural waste into raw material and giving green, circular agriculture a push forward.
