From the “Paradise on Earth” to the “Land of a Thousand Islands” now takes just six hours. Xiamen Airlines announced on September 9 its new Hangzhou-Jakarta route, which starts officially on September 30 as the first and only direct passenger flight from Hangzhou to Indonesia’s capital. It allows travelers from the Yangtze River Delta to fly straight from Hangzhou to downtown Jakarta, or take an easy transfer to cities like Bali and Yogyakarta. It’s a fresh option for those planning trips during China’s National Day holiday.

The flight will be run three times a week from September 30 to October 8 - Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Xiamen Airlines says it will adjust the long-term schedule based on demands after October 9.

The flight MF8717/8 on this route will span a distance in roughly six hours (10:40-16:40 to Jakarta, and 17:40-23:50 back from Jakarta). That means you could take a sip of Longjing before you go and watch coconut palms swaying afar the same day.

The flights from Hangzhou to Jakarta usually require a layover in cities like Xiamen or Bangkok, with total travel time of at least nine hours. This new nonstop service cuts that down by 3-5 hours. To celebrate the launch, Xiamen Airlines is offering Hangzhou-Jakarta tickets priced as low as 999 yuan. Go check the airline’s official website, app, WeChat mini-program, and major online travel platforms to buy one.

Another big perk? Indonesia offers hassle-free visa-on-arrival for Chinese passport holders - with a stay up to 30 days. After the Golden Week, Xiamen Airlines will announce with agencies in collaboration more travel plans, like “Jakarta + Bali” and “Jakarta + Manado” - all designed to help travelers dive into Indonesia.

On top of this new route, Xiamen Airlines will also launch a new Hangzhou-Kuala Lumpur service and an extra flight to Singapore during the National Day holiday. They will make trips to the Southeast Asia come true.
