A charity event themed was held at the Rome Square, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the West Lake Scenic Area Charity Association’s establishment, on Nov. 27.
What’s called “18 Charitable Culture Sites of West Lake” were officially unveiled during the event. The initiative delves into the charitable history, figure stories, and public welfare practices embedded within the West Lake area. “I spent most of my life living by the West Lake, yet I never knew these moving charity stories behind its scenery. From now on, when I bring my grandson here, we won’t just enjoy the views - I’ll share these heartwarming tales too,” remarked Chen, a local resident.
The event also saw the inauguration of the “Shanxiaoxi (little kindness) Volunteer Service Team,” which received its official flag. Awards were also presented to “West Lake Benefactors,” including organizations, enterprises, and individuals. “I’m just an ordinary retired worker doing small things. Giving directions or offering help to tourists around the lake, hearing their ‘thank you’ - it brings me such peace. As long as my legs are working, I’ll keep doing this,” said the 70-year-old volunteer Guo Qixin, honored as one of the West Lake Benefactors.
Moving forward, West Lake Scenic Area will continue advancing toward its goal to spread charity far and wide, using the goodwill within its landscape to express the region’s spirit of humanity and sense of responsibility.
