The solar term “light snow” (Xiaoxue) - traditionally seen as an ideal time for nourishment and self-care - arrives. A special wellness-themed intangible cultural heritage (ICH) fair will kick off on Binjiang’s Star Avenue this weekend on November 22 and 23. The so-called “Xiaoxue Bazaar” brings over 60 ICH artisans and creative brands for a cozy winter celebration blending time-honored therapies with masterful heritage.

In the name of “Wellness in Season,” the fair unfolds across three immersive zones - all to savor and take home.

The first zoen, “Time-Honored Therapies Reimagined,” will spotlight China’s millennia-old wellness traditions. Heritage brands like Fang Hui Chun Tang and Wan Cheng Zhi Tang will be present with classic herbal paste (gao-fang) preparation and show what’s the philosophy of “food as medicine.” Visitors can consult practitioners of time-tested therapies, including Jiaqiao’s ancient moxibustion, the Zhan family’s orthopedic techniques, and the Zhao lineage’s bone-setting method. It’ll be a chance to learn how TCM supports holistic health. Also on offer are nourishing delicacies like Qian Ning Zhai’s loquat-pear syrup with tangerine peel, alongside heritage-style tonics, ancient-style honey, and the processed hockey nuts - all perfect winter recipes.

The second one about the fine craftsmanship zeros in on tradition dancing with contemporary designs. You may find chances to watch how palm leaves are transformed into weavings, how mini-worlds appear on tiny nutshells, and how is brought to life through indigo-dyed fabrics, classical scroll mounting, and the delicate art of kintsugi-style ceramic repair. You can also pick up stylish souvenirs from indie labels like Wang’s Handmade, Lan Shang Studio, and Yuanxi Cultural Creations - all refined goods with heritage elements.

The third zone, “Savor the Flavors,” focus on cuisine - Yiqiao’s stewed lamb, Longmen’s stuffed gluten, Sanjiacun’s lotus root powder, and more rustic snacks from Tonglu - like crispy sesame twists to evoke childhood memories. The fair will be further enriched with osmanthus-infused Longjing tea, Yan Dongguan’s Wujiapi liquor-making technique, and the representative Yifutang and Sanqing tea roasting techniques.

Beyond the stalls, live performances run all day - the local Yue opera, “Xiao Re Hun” folk storytelling, Hanfu parades, dazzling diabolo tricks, and even six-syllable healthcare breathing exercises will come onto the stage.

And there’s more: visitors who collect stamps at various booths will get exclusive ICH-themed gifts. One more - as November 22 marks the Global Hanfu (traditional Han Chinese’s costume) Day, those dressed in traditional Hanfu attire that day will receive special giveaways!
