The 2025 summer travel rush is in full swing, and Hangzhou’s ports just smashed this year’s passenger record. As of August 11, cross-border trips here have topped 3 million - up 10.1% from last year. Foreign arrivals alone hit 240,000 (16.7% of total traffic), with Koreans, Malaysians, and Thais leading the 20% surge, mostly here for tourism and business. Outbound travelers are flocking to visa-free hotspots like Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, with family trips and study tours driving the boom.
Hangzhou Immigration reports 3,200+ flights handled since July 1, moving 555,000 passengers. The August’s rush shows no signs of cooling - while classic “Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand” routes stay packed, new Dubai-direct flights are running at 80% capacity.
To keep things smooth, the border control rolled out bilingual how-to videos on checkpoint screens and have them aired through government social media (National Immigration Administration, Hangzhou Immigration, Hangzhou Airport, etc.) online and offline. They have also upgraded with self-service kiosks for arrival cards, sampling systems, smart queue systems, and other digital tweaks to speed up the flow.
