2025 Lotus and Water Lily Show, sponsored by and in the Botanical Garden, was launched as a greeting to the city’s vibrancy, making the host garden a sought-after tour destination in summertime. The floral exhibition will remain open until June 26.

The event is divided into three areas, each named “Lotuses and Water Lilies in Nature,” “Lotus in Pots,” and “Water Lily in Pots.” You may find the first at the Waterscape Garden of the Aquatic Plant Zone, where the vast stretches of lotuses and water lilies are in full bloom.

The “Lotus in Pots” features a blend of traditional Chinese elements such as oil-paper umbrellas, bamboo ladders, straw hats, and painted scrolls. Along both sides of the fish pond at Yuquan (Jade Spring), floral displays are well arranged at varying heights to create a multi-layered and immersive experience. Over 80 potted lotus plants are on display, including prize-winners from national competitions such as “Fenghe Zuiyang (sun-kissed lotuses in breeze),” “Yinxiang Xihu (impression of the West Lake),” “Qingping Yingri (verdant vastness),” and “Zhuyingyao (crimson petals in swing).”

The area for potted water lily offers more than 20 popular or self-cultivated varieties and some aquatic plants, like the lotuses and acorus calamus (sweet flag). A quite different vibe is delivered here, compared with the one for lotuses.

Weather forecast says we are having sunny, high-temperature days. However, as now it is the “plum rain season,” occasional showers are well in place. The meteorology administration said afternoon thunderstorms and heavy convective weather are likely to occur frequently in the coming days. Just do the washing job and get your clothes sun-basked now, and don’t miss an umbrella when heading out.
