The Third Exhibition of Outstanding Works from the Arts and Crafts in Progress Project recently opened at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum.
As the largest general museum in Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Provincial Museum is dedicated to preserving, studying, and showcasing the rich heritage of arts and crafts from China and beyond. The museum actively explores the deep cultural significance of this heritage and its potential to inspire contemporary creative expression. To foster a new generation of talented artisans, the museum has launched the Arts and Crafts in Progress Project. This initiative invites exceptional artists from across the country to participate in intensive training programs, which include guided tours of the museum’s extensive collections and visits to culturally significant sites. By immersing participants in China’s rich history and artistic traditions, the project seeks to enhance their artistic skills and inspire the creation of extraordinary works.
During the training phase of the Arts and Crafts in Progress Project (2022–2023), artists and intangible cultural heritage practitioners embarked on a journey through the heart of Chinese culture. They explored the stunning landscapes of Jiangnan and cultural treasures along the ancient Silk Road, including the Mogao Grottoes, Yulin Grottoes, and Western Thousand Buddha Caves. They immersed themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of the Heluo region, visiting the Yangshaocun Site and the Erlitou Site, and gained insights into the wisdom of past generations in harnessing natural resources, as exemplified by Hakka tulou buildings in Yongding and the maritime legacy of Quanzhou Port.
The exhibition showcases the remarkable results of this cross-regional training project, featuring 72 artworks, including collections, by 39 acclaimed artists. The exhibition will run until December 15 at the temporary exhibition hall on the B1 level of the Zhijiang Branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum.
