The final review of the 14th China Dance Lotus Award for Chinese Classical Dance was held at the Hangzhou Grand Canal Theater from November 13 to 14. Chinese classical dance, an important exponent of Chinese civilization, not only showcases the aesthetic sensibilities of the Chinese nation, but also demonstrates the confidence of Chinese people in our own culture.

Lotus Award is a national dance award jointly launched by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Dancers Association. The biennial award currently covers five categories: dance drama, ethnic and folk dance, classical dance, contemporary dance, and modern dance. It is recognized as the most authoritative “expert award” in the domain of Chinese dance.

Review of the 14th Lotus Award for Chinese Classical Dance started in July this year. After strict review by the organizing committee, 24 out of the 227 entries from around the country were shortlisted for final review. These shortlisted works would come onstage in order of draws to compete for three classical dance awards.

On the stage, the dancers infused the spirit of the times into their performances, telling China’s stories and showcasing the Chinese vitality with their lively dances revolving around such themes as the art of calligraphy and painting, the elegance of female musicians, and the refined demeanor of literati and scholars. Their performances were given scores by the judges on the spot. The final results of the award will be determined by a vote of the judging panel based on the scores, and will be announced soon.
