The 2024 Silk Road Week, which kicked off in Hangzhou on June 19th, is a hit drawing over 400,000 visitors in the past four months. The event is set to conclude in France on October 14th, and we can’t wait to see what the finale has in store.

According to Ji Xiaofeng, director of China National Silk Museum, the museum will present five special events to mark the close of the 2024 Silk Road Week: Chinese Silk Art Boutique Exhibition, Sericulture and Silk Craftsmanship in China, Silk Road Cultural Heritage Fashion Show, China-France Fashion Dialogue, and Silk Road Campus Event.

The museum has also unveiled Popular and Pioneer: Pop Art Fashion in 20th Century.

Pop Art might be an unfamiliar term for many Chinese people, but we’ve definitely seen its influence everywhere. At its core, it’s all about bold, vibrant colors and playful patterns.

From our clothes to our accessories, Pop Art is everywhere. Think exaggerated graphics, geometric shapes, polka dots, cartoon elements, striking color combinations, and repetitive patterns. It’s a fun and eye-catching style that’s sure to brighten up our day.

This exhibition showcases Pop Art-inspired clothing and accessories from the Western fashion collection of the China National Silk Museum. It also features other related fashion styles from the 20th century, including Op Art, Space Age, and Abstract Art.

The exhibition comprises three sections: Whimsical Prints, Polka Dots First, and Cartoon Elements.

To enhance the visitor experience, the museum offers free stickers and stamps. Each visitor is limited to one sticker, first come, first served. In the interactive area, you can try on Pop Art ties to see if the style suits you.

Popular and Pioneer is on display on the second floor of the venue hosting the Restoration and Conservation of Textiles exhibition. The display will continue until February 28, 2025.
