A food festival, gathering Hangzhou’s representative restaurant brands, including Gui Yu Shan Fang, Yue Xuan, Jie Xiang Lou and Li An, was unveiled in The Mixc, a popular shopping mall in Hangzhou. The event named “Food in Shangcheng” has attracted droves of visitors.
A major sideline event of Shangcheng District’s spending season, the food festival gathers chefs from dozens of special restaurants in Hangzhou to create a fashionable gourmet feast. It will last till October 8. The Mixc, where the event is held, simultaneously launched a theater festival. Internationally renowned theater troupes have been staging situation dramas in the setting of local blocks.
According to the Commerce Bureau of Shangcheng District, the food festival is launched to present a high-quality platform for exchanges on gourmet, spur consumption of fashionable restaurants and bring the cuisine charm of Shangcheng District to more people. Shangcheng District launched a map of must-go restaurants on leading food and in-demand delivery platform Meituan.
Shangcheng District has been developing fashionable restaurants over the recent years with supportive policies. It has been encouraging shopping centers to introduce up-market restaurants, and supporting businesses like Hu Qing Yu House, an herbal cuisine developer, in doubling down on the study of Hangzhou cuisine. Since earlier this year, Shangcheng District has introduced more than 70 first stores and flagship stores of renowned brands, giving a strong impetus to local consumption. From January to August, earnings of the catering sector in Shangcheng District grew 23 percent, the highest among all districts in Hangzhou.
Shangcheng District will combine its events with the Asian Games Spending Season and selected top nine popular Asian Games stores and top eight Asian Games dishes amid efforts to promoting local restaurant brands in the global market. “It is expected that opportunities brought by Asian Games and events like the Asian Games Spending Season will further spur consumption, and enhance the charm and international influence of Shangcheng District as a digital and fashionable hub for consumers,” said a director of the Commerce Bureau of Shangcheng District.
