Starting from October 29, airports across Zhejiang Province began to follow the 2023 winter/spring flight schedule. The number of planned flights every week is expected to reach 13,700, or 2,000 on a daily basis, an increase of 9.4 percent year on year. The rise is five percentage points higher than the national average.

With the new schedule, the number of flights handled by Hangzhou’s airport is 6,940, up 10.9 percent year on year, the ninth highest nationwide. Of the total, 6,214 are passenger flights, up 17 percent from the previous year, ranking 10th in the country. The numbers of weekly flights handled by the airports in Ningbo and Wenzhou both surpassed 2,400. Smaller airports in Zhoushan, Quzhou, Taizhou and Yiwu are also actively cooperating with the Civic Aviation of China and airlines to keep their flights rise steadily.

With the new schedule, continental direct flights from Hangzhou’s airport reaches seven destinations, which are Rome in Italy, Lisbon in Portugal, Cairo in Egypt, Madrid in Spain, Moscow in Russia, Sydney in Australia and Aukland in New Zealand. Harnessing opportunities brought by the Asian Games, Hangzhou’s airport continues to add and restore passenger flights to Asian destinations. It has planned to restore and open flights to Okinawa, Vientiane, Da Nang and Kaohsiung. The numbers of flights to popular destinations of Bangkok, Osaka, Nha Trang and Phuket have increased to 32, 29, 16 and 14, respectively. Flights to Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Chiang Mai exceed 50 percent.

Of the newly added international flights, the Hangzhou-Syndney-Aukland two-way one is Zhejiang’s first fifth freedom of the air flight. The fifth freedom of the air grants access to a third country. It means that when an airline of one country operates an international flight, it can stop in a third country and pick up passengers and cargoes. The right is known as the freedom with the most economic value in the aviation industry. It is also an important measurement for a region’s openness and business environment.

Apart from international flights, three leading airports in Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou all add new express flights. Flights from Hangzhou to Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen have been increased to 40, 34 and 33 in number on a daily basis. The numbers of flights from Ningbo to Beijing, Chengdu and Guangzhou exceeded to 10. The same with flights from Wenzhou to Kunming, Guiyang and Guangzhou. The increase makes passengers travel much easier.
