Xiaohe Park has emerged as a new must-see sightseeing destination in Hangzhou. Hangzhou Commerce, Tourism and Canal Group said a cross-canal pedestrian bridge is scheduled for construction later this year in Xiaohe Park.
“The project has applied the permit for construction engineering planning and finished public bidding. It is now applying for a permit for construction and making preparations, paving the way for official construction later this year,” said a manager with the canal construction and management company under the Hangzhou Commerce and Tourism Group.
On the north side of the crossing of Xitang River and Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Gongshu District, the east-west cross-canal pedestrian bridge connects Xiaohe Park with Qingsha Park. Covering an area of 5,701 square meters, the project is made up by the cross-canal pedestrian bridge and ancillary works, including the landscaping, pipeline installations, memorials and other related structures.
Connecting the two banks of the canal, the project fully integrates canal-related culture and characteristics of Hangzhou. When it is completed, Xiaohe Park will be easily connected with Qingsha Park in the opposite of the canal. While facilitating leisure walks along the two banks of the Grand Canal and making cross-canal transportation easier, the bridge will create comfortable space for walking and a venue for diverse cultural activities, adding sense of happiness to residents living around.
