An online shopping festival for the Chinese New Year is to be held from Jan 20 to Feb 18. It aims to secure basic supply and boost consumption against the backdrop of epidemic prevention and control. On Jan 14, Hangzhou Municipal Government held a dedicated meeting after receiving directions from the Ministry of Commerce through video conferences and official papers, and decided to energize e-commerce platforms and other related companies to take an active part in the online shopping festival, with a view to facilitating people’s purchase while bringing down the risk of infection by reducing offline shopping.
Despite its being held online, the shopping festival won’t be short of attractiveness with preferential policy and a wide variety of products. It will be joined by a number of large e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba, Lifease, Suning.com, BeiBei.com, and m.mogu.com, who will make the most of new shopping models such as livestreaming and online fairs, and put in place traditional incentives such as discounts, gifts and coupons. Companies including Freshhema, Lianhua, Yintai, Dingdong Fresh, Meituan and Xianfengsg, aided by big data technology, will serve as useful complementarities when offline purchase is not available, and help secure the supply of essentials like rice, flour, oil, eggs, vegetables, milk and convenient food along with personal protective equipment like masks, disinfectant and disposable gloves. Courier service companies such as YTO Express, SF Express and JD Logistics began arranging warehouses, logistics, and delivery workers as early as December last year, as they step up efforts to implement epidemic containment measures with extra attention given to cold-chain transportation to ensure safe and timely delivery.
At present, the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging in many parts of the world, posing severe challenges to the domestic fight against pandemic resurgence. Given the harsh situation, Hangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau has announced that it will cooperate with relevant departments and agencies to provide guidance for platforms and companies, strengthen pandemic response so that a smooth and stable transportation of goods can be guaranteed, legitimate rights and interests of customers protected and a happy New Year Holiday realized.
