The city hosted the sixth China Kindness Culture Festival on Sept 5. By praising and awarding people well known for their kind behaviors and holding the 2020 China Kindness Culture Forum, the festival aims to promote such behaviors, focus on topics about elderly care, and carry forward the traditional Chinese culture of love and caring.

The festival, which has entered its sixth year, was started in Zhejiang, and later participated by representatives from both mainland China and Taiwan, and now drew attention from overseas Chinese. It has become an influential event that boosts cultural exchange home and abroad.

The festival particularly honored ten individuals/groups for their kind behavior, including Zhang Junlan, a journalist who traveled to deep Daliang Mountain for 33 times, helping over 2,000 students from impoverished families; blue envelope left-behind children caring center, who write letters to and provide psychological consultation for kids whose parents left them for work in other cities; Wuhan empty nester service group, who helped elder people with no families buy drugs, masks, and groceries.

Chinese people have the genes of kindness, and “we see greatness in these individuals/groups, their good deeds, and their persistence,” said Lian Xiaomin, chairperson of the Zhejiang Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

The activities were organized by Lingyin Temple, China News Agency’s Zhejiang branch, and Zhejiang Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.
