The city’s launched a CNY 100 million online marketing campaign on Apr 20 to promote its coronavirus-hit tourism sector. The promotion will last till May 4.

By searching the “Hangzhou City Member” mini program on Alipay and paying CNY 1.99 in the program, users can open a virtual mini figure box. The city has placed a total of 20,000 presents and 1 million discount packages for travelers in the boxes.

Koi carp fish symbolizes auspiciousness on China's social media platforms. The campaign will also select 999 “city carp” users and give each of them coupons worth CNY 4,860 for checking in luxury hotels, dining in buffet restaurants, taking the Grand Canal tours, topping in their Hangzhou Travel Pass cards or Migu reader cards.

The city will donate all the revenue from the promotion to fund Hangzhou Red Cross Society’s project of equipping scenic areas with AEDs. The society has set up first-aid stations in three 5A scenic areas — Xixi Wetland, Qiandao Lake, and Lingyin Temple.

The marketing campaign is organized by the Hangzhou Culture, Broadcasting, TV and Tourism Bureau, Hangzhou Red Cross Society, and Hangzhou City Brain Co Ltd.
