AutoNavi searches for China’s most popular commercial areas have increased steadily over the past month, the map app’s traffic recovery report unveiled on Monday. The number of visitors to major commercial areas has recovered to over 30% of the normal level.

The searches for Wulin commercial area on the app last weekend increased nearly nine times from mid-February, or 46% of the level prior to the coronavirus outbreak, followed by the Tianyi commercial area of Ningbo and Guanyinqiao area of Chongqing.

More people walking outside leads to the release of consumption potential. The business of several Yintai department stores at some large commercial areas have recovered to over half of that prior to the pandemic, according to Yintai’s data. Wulin Yintai, which was the first shopping mall to resume operation in the area, saw its first-day sales surpass that of the same day last year. Sales of cosmetics such as essence, eye care cream, makeup remover, facial cleansing cream, and spray have soared lately. The sales of eye makeup products more than doubled and several eyeshadow palette products were completely sold out, as people only reveal their eyes with the face masks on.

The malls are still controlling customer traffic to prevent any virus resurgence. AutoNavi has rolled out a feature for users to check the traffic of any given mall in real-time and avoid peak hours. “In the case of too many customers, you can place orders on Yintai’s Miaojie shopping app and have them delivered in two hours. Customers in other cities can shop from the app as well,” said a manager of the mall.
