Hangzhou’s first foreign exchange duty-free store, which is also such kind in Zhejiang province, started test opening on Dec 25 on the first and second floors of Starlight City of Binjiang District. The 1,872 sq meter store sells perfumes, cosmetics, sunglasses, jewels, garments and shoes on the first floor; and chocolates, toys, household commodities, handicrafts, garments, and bags. Brands including Bally and Clarins now sells over 1,000 stock-keeping units of products. Burberry, LV, Huge Boss, and Gucci have agreed to open stores in the store as well. The test opening will last until February, before which only the second floor is open to customers.

The store is a foreign product shopping place for Chinese citizens that have traveled abroad, according to an unnamed official with Hangzhou Customs. People with Chinese passports above the age of 16, who have not traveled frequently from and to China, are allowed to do shopping in the store within 180 days after they entered China. The number of products purchased must be in a reasonable range; they will be taxed otherwise.

The Hangzhou customs have made adequate preparation for the opening of the store, including a learning trip to Shanghai, supervision of the interior renovation, installation of the surveillance system, implementation of the management requirements, and the daily administration based on customs regulations.
