The Cross-Strait E-commerce Collaboration Alliance was founded at a forum on e-commerce cooperation between shopping platforms in Taiwan and mainland China on Sept 18.

The rapid growing internet-based economy has led to a positive change in the economic and trade relations between Taiwan and the mainland, as the evolving e-commerce industry becomes an increasingly important channel for cross-strait convergence, providing new space and new blue sea for cross-strait cooperation. As one of the activities of 2019 Zhejiang Taiwan Cooperation Week, the forum aims to promote the e-commerce collaboration between the two sides and actively explore new modes of industrial integration and development.

At the forum, Tmall International and Yunji from Hangzhou worked with China Taiwan Site, and Taiwanese companies including Jollywiz and Shinybrands, to jointly launched the alliance and released an initiative to promote cross-strait e-commerce cooperation. The initiative will build a platform for regular cross-strait e-commerce cooperation and exchange, and jointly create a favorable economic and trade environment for such cooperation.

The cooperation between Taiwan enterprises and Hangzhou e-commerce platforms has a long history. Since the end of 2013, Taiwan brands have open stores on Tmall International with strongly growing sales in the past five years. Cosmetics, personal care, maternity and baby products, and foods are very popular with consumers. In particular, three cosmetics brands from Taiwan achieved combined sales of CNY 450 million last year on Yunji. In June this year, Yunji launched a dedicated pavilion for Taiwan products.

The alliance targets CNY 1 billion sales of Taiwan products on mainland Chinese e-commerce platforms this year. Tmall International, Yujin and the shopping platform of China Taiwan Site will launch a promotion campaign for Taiwan products on September 20, aiming to create a shopping carnival dedicated to Taiwan product features that rival Alibaba’s Singles Day promotion.

Based on the past records, shopping platforms and enterprises across the strait are very confident in achieving their goals. "We hope that through this activity, we can create a grand gathering for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, attract more enterprises to interact through new channels, and promote cross-strait economic exchange,” said Xiao Shanglue, founder and CEO of Yunji.
