The city’s sweet osmanthus trees blossomed fast with favorable temperature and humidity recently. However, several consecutive days of hot weather have sent them withering before visitors had the chance to see them.

The second round of blossoming will start during the National Day holiday, and the annual Hangzhou West Lake Osmanthus Festival will kick off Saturday at Hangzhou Children’s Park when visitors can smell the fragrance, taste osmanthus tea, eat food with osmanthus as ingredients and make such food.

Osmanthus Longjing is a local specialty that is only available in 90 days of a year. The mix fragrance of Longjing Tea and osmanthus is that of spring tea and autumn flower.

The early blossoming has made it possible for visitors to the osmanthus festival to sip the special tea this year. In order to offer visitors the tea, villagers of Manjuelong, local technicians and Tang Xiaojun, a Longjing tea-roasting expert make the best of the early blossoming and made the tea. Tang will introduce the tea making process at the opening ceremony and enjoy the tea with the visitors.

In addition, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage will make candy with osmanthus. The park has also invited Zhao Dan, senior tea ceremony performer from the China National Tea Museum to show the art of making tea. The park will spare part of its lawn for a tasting of tea featuring four seasons.
