China National Tea Museum formed its volunteer group in 2005 and has been recruiting volunteers openly since March 2017. The museum now has 166 volunteers, including 125 from the city’s universities and 41 from open recruitment. Each year, the volunteer team gives more than 100 guide tours to visitors free of charge, organizes and participates in nearly 20 tea-related activities, which serve more than 50,000 visitors in total. Each volunteer works over 40 hours a year at the museum.

The museum, as the country’s only national-level tea and tea culture museum, has its unique standards in selecting and recruiting volunteers. Besides their education background, knowledge and dedication, applicants must be passionate about tea and its culture. There will also be training for volunteers every year.

China National Tea Museum started this year’s largest volunteer training program on Nov 23, with the participation of 85 volunteers from five universities, such as Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology, Zhejiang Gongshang University and Zhejiang University of Technology.

“I welcome all the volunteers to join us, and hopefully tea will become a lifestyle for you,” said curator Wu Xiaoli of China National Tea Museum to open the training program.

The museum has also inked an agreement on long-term strategic partnerships with China Jiliang University and Hangzhou Tourism Vocational School as well as the above mentioned three universities.
