Merchants increased 70% YoY during this year’s Singles’ Day promotion, and consumers increased by 36%, according to Alibaba Health’s data. The spending on health per capita grew nearly by CNY 20.

The health products sold this year feature more intelligent technology and are welcome by more young people. People are buying high tech products including those can help custom-make dental braces and prescription glasses, and have them delivered home. Other products include blood sugar level testing devices that don’t call for finger pricking, gummy candies that contain blueberry and strawberry juices, medical masks that are suitable for allergic skin and can remove acne, weighted blankets that create a hugging feel and improve sleep quality, contact lens care solution that can remove protein residues, and gene testing devices that tell whether a user is addicted to shopping.

Surprisingly, the health-related spending during the Singles’ Day promotion shows huge shopping potential in low-tier markets. Hengshui of Hebei Province, instead of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, has the highest spending per capita. People that are born after 1985 in third-tier and even lower-tier cities, such as Shantou, Luoyang, Langfang, Linyi, and Weifang, are more willing to invest in their health.
