The light show along the 10km bank of Qiantang River on July 4 was applauded by a large number of users on social media sites including Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. The show was first staged prior to the G20 Summit last September to promote the city’s international image. Skyscrapers that are decorated with lights along the river can be reflected in the river at night, which wowed visitors from around the globe.

This year, the light show plan saw its biggest change since last year. Also, the city started a painting contest on school campus themed with the light show three months ago. 66 award-winning works were displayed. “The contest will help present the kids’ talent, and more people will see the river from a different perspective,” said an official with the Binjiang District government.

Hangzhoufeel, the account registered in foreign social media sites, have also selected some award-winning pieces, which painted starry sky, colorful school campus, football field and huge fish tank, to publish on the platforms. “Kids’ works have become the focus of the light show, which is something we’d love to see, as it shows the city’s care for people,” said a local resident.
