The city’s imports from and exports to countries along the Belt & Road initiative increased 22.7% YoY to 45.59 billion RMB in the first four months of 2017, accounting for 2% of the country’s total.
Specifically, exports grew 3.2% to 30.78 billion, and imports doubled to 14.81 billion. During the same period, the Belt & Road initiative contributed 29.6% of the city’s total imports and exports, 30.3% of the imports, and 28.2% of the exports.
Hangzhou saw rapid growth via all means of transportation. In the first four months of 2017, exports to the countries along the Belt & Road initiative via railway grew 48.9% to 600 million, and imports increased 800%. The combined number of newly added routes and old routes that increased number of flights amounted to 44 at Xiaoshan Airport since last year. Exports to the countries along the Belt & Road initiative via air transportation grew by 35.8% to 1.25 billion RMB, accounting for 8.4% of the total.
